Discouraging Destructive Behavior

At this point you may start to feel more comfortable and confident in your puppy. That is until you come home and your puppy has chewed up or destroyed something. Not to fret, there are ways to prevent your puppy’s destructive behavior.

Keeping your Puppy Active

Many dogs resort to destructive behavior for one simple reason - they are not getting enough exercise. Having pent up energy can cause your pup to act out. So the easy solution is to keep your puppy active. Take them for a walk before you leave the house. Make sure that they are getting plenty of playtime when you are home with them. Or even take them to a local dog park to get out their energy with other pups!

Boredom Busters

Some dogs also act out because they are bored. Mental stimulation is just as important as physical stimulation for your puppy. There are a variety of different toys that can help alleviate boredom and put your pup’s brain to work! Check out a list of our favorite boredom busters.

Talk to the Professionals

If you are still struggling to manage your puppy’s destructive behavior it may be time to consult a professional. If you have been working with a dog trainer, ask them about your dog’s specific behavioral issues. You can also consult your veterinarian to see if they have specific advice or tactics to manage your dog’s behavior.
