New Puppy Checklist

Bringing home a puppy is one of the most exciting times in your life. Your days are soon-to-be filled with cuddles, kisses and fun! However, bringing home a new furry friend can be stressful too. Puppies require a lot of time, patience and attention. One way to ease the transition of bringing your puppy home is having the right supplies.

Quality Puppy Food

Just like babies, puppies need proper nutrition to grow and thrive. When you bring your puppy home be sure to feed them a quality food formulated for puppies. During your first vet visit consult with your veterinarian to see what puppy food they recommend for your dog’s specific nutrition needs.

Food and Water Bowls

Your puppy should have their own food and water bowls. If you are looking for bowls that are durable, affordable and easy to clean check out the Incredipet Heavy Duty Stainless Steel Bowl. You will also need to store your dog’s food to keep it fresh and secure.

Training Treats

A big part of bringing your puppy home is training. To reinforce and reward good behavior you will want to have training treats on hand. You will want to choose treats that are small and easy to digest. Some of our favorite training treats are from Wellness, Pet Botanics and Fromm.

Collar, Harness and Leash

Walking and playing outdoors with your puppy is a great way to keep them active and social. Before you head out of your first walk you will need a leash, collar and harness. We recommend choosing supplies that are comfortable and adjustable that your puppy can grow into.

Crate and Dog Bed

Your puppy is the newest member of your family and you want them to feel at home. Create a cozy and safe space for your puppy with a dog bed. This will give them a place to lounge and cuddle up during the day. Many people also opt to crate train their puppies. Crates can give your dog a safe space for them to relax. Choose a crate that is the right size for your dog’s breed and size.

Toys

It is important to bond with your dog while they are a puppy. A great way to do that is playtime! Use engaging puppy toys to help physically and mentally stimulate your dog. There are tons of toys to choose from, but we recommend checking out the Kong Puppy Toy, Nylabone Teething Ring and JW Pet 3-in-1 Puppy Toy.

Training and Cleaning Products

As hard as our puppies work to behave, accidents happen. It is inevitable that your dog will have an accident…or two. When those accidents happen you will want to have a good stain and odor spray at the ready. You may also find that having a housebreaking aid on hand is helpful when potty training. If you find your chewing is anything and everything Incredipet Chew Deterrent Spray or Sentry Behavior Correction Spray can assist in discouraging that puppy urge to chew.

Last but not least, remember to enjoy yourself! Bringing home your puppy means you are bringing home your new best friend!
