Socializing your Puppy

While you may feel perfectly content snuggling and playing at home with your puppy everyday, you will eventually have to venture out into the world. You can make sure your puppy is comfortable and confident in himself through socialization. Socializing your puppy will help them respond positively to all of the sounds, sights and smells around them. There are a few simple tactics that will help you and your puppy live a happy, fun and social life!

Introduce Your Puppy to New People, Places and Things

It is important to continue to introduce your pup to new people, places and things. You can start out easy with friends and family in your home or by taking a daily walk around the neighborhood. By now your puppy should have their necessary vaccinations to go to dog parks. If it is your puppy’s first time at the dog park, try and go during a slower time of day so that your puppy does not get overwhelmed. Another great way to socialize your puppy is by taking them on a trip to your local Chow Hound Pet Supplies

Stay Positive

The world is a new, exciting and sometimes scary place for your puppy. Make sure to read your dog’s cues. If they seem hesitant or nervous, encourage them verbally and with treats! It is also important to stay calm in new situations with your puppy.

Keep Training

One of the best ways to socialize your puppy and prepare them for the world is with training classes. If your puppy has already made it through our level 1 training class, move them up to our level 2 class. Your dog trainer is also a great resource if you have any questions or need help with a particular issue.
