Product strength & size

This product may be available in multiple strengths and/or sizes; please ensure the selected product is appropriate for your pet, as recommended by your veterinarian.

Usage
Fluticasone Propionate HFA should be administered via inhalation as directed by your veterinarian. Please consult your veterinarian before making any changes or discontinuing the prescribed dosing schedule.
A delivery device (spacer) appropriate for the size and species of the treated animal should be used with this inhaler.
This medication is not a “rescue” inhaler and is not intended for treatment of acute asthma attacks. Administer the medication consistently as prescribed; although it may take 2 weeks or longer to reach its full therapeutic effect, gradual improvement is expected over time.

For general inhaler use:
*See the included manufacturer patient information leaflet for complete instructions on priming and cleaning the inhaler.
Ensure the inhaler is primed as detailed in the manufacturer patient information leaflet. Shake well before each use.
Ensure the facemask of the delivery device is placed snugly over your pet’s muzzle/nostrils.
Actuate the inhaler to release a puff of medication and allow your pet to take 7 to 10 breaths before removing the facemask.

Fluticasone Propionate HFA has a counter attached to the canister. The counter starts at 124 and counts down each time a spray is released. The correct amount of medication in each actuation cannot be assured after the counter reads 000, even though the canister may not be completely empty and continue to operate.
Discard the inhaler when the counter reads 000 or before the manufacturer expiration date, whichever comes first.

Missed doses
Administer the dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular schedule. Do not give two doses at once.

Storage
Store in a cool, dry place at a controlled room temperature (68 to 77°F, excursions permitted between 59 and 86°F). Store the inhaler upright with the mouthpiece down and out of the reach of children and pets. Store away from heat and direct sunlight. Do not store in the bathroom, near the kitchen sink, or in damp places. The medicine may break down if exposed to heat or moisture.
The canister is pressurized and should not be punctured. Do not store or use near heat or open flames. Exposure to temperatures above 120°F may cause the canister to burst. Do NOT discard the canister into a fire or incinerator.

Side effects
Possible side effects include (but may not be limited to): sore throat, oral candidiasis (thrush), and upper respiratory inflammation or infection. Systemic side effects associated with oral and injectable corticosteroids are less likely to occur with this inhaled medication.
Contact your veterinarian immediately if your pet experiences redness, sores, or hair loss on the muzzle; increased/excessive thirst, urination, or appetite; weight gain or a “potbellied” appearance; skin or hair coat changes (e.g., thinning, hair loss); or weakness/atypically low energy levels.

Notify your veterinarian if your pet experiences any of the effects described above, or if you notice any other side effects that are persistent or troublesome.
If you notice anything unusual, please consult your veterinarian.

Precautions
Do NOT administer this medication to animals with acute bronchospasm (active wheezing or shortness of breath).
Safe use of this medication has not been established in breeding, pregnant, or lactating animals.

Do not administer to animals with a known history or suspected allergy/hypersensitivity to any corticosteroid drug, including this medication or any of its ingredients. Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Be sure to inform Vetsource and your veterinarian if your pet has any known drug sensitivities or allergies.
If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, discontinue therapy and call your veterinarian immediately or seek emergency veterinary attention. Symptoms may include (but are not limited to): swollen lips, tongue, face, or airways, difficulty breathing, agitation, profuse salivation, and widespread hives or itching.

Drug and food interactions
Inhaled medications are not absorbed into the body in the same manner as oral or injectable drugs. While interactions with inhaled medications may still occur, the extent and magnitude of these interactions is generally unclear.
