Advantage Multi® Topical Solution for Dogs

Advantage Multi® Topical Solution is a broad-spectrum once a month topical application that prevents heartworm disease and treats heartworm microfilaria, kills fleas, treats and controls hookworms, roundworms, whipworms, and treats sarcoptic mange in dogs.

Advantage Multi® Topical Solution is a colorless to yellow liquid.

Advantage Multi® Topical Solution should be applied as directed by your veterinarian. This medication should be administered at every 30 day intervals, year-round to guarantee complete protection.  For dogs over 110 lbs, use the appropriate combination of tubes to ensure complete protection. 

Immediately before use, open the pouch and remove the tube. Hold the tube at the crimped end with the cap in the upright position (tip up). Remove the cap from the tube and turn the cap over and push the other end of the cap onto the tip of the tube.  Twist the cap to break the seal then remove the cap from the tube. Always keep the tube in the upright position to prevent leaking.

With the dog standing with its back horizontal, part the fur at the administration site (between the shoulder blades) until the skin is visible.  Place the tube vertically against the skin between the shoulder blades of the dog. Squeeze the tube and gently apply the solution in one or more spots (depending on weight of dog) starting between the top of the backline from the base of the neck to the upper back and shoulder blades, apply in areas that are inaccessible to licking.  Avoid applying an excessive amount of solution in any one spot which may cause some to run or drip off the dog.

Do not contact or allow children to contact the application site until dry.  Wash hands and contacted skin thoroughly with soap and water immediately after application.

Give the dose as soon as you remember, unless it is time for the next dose.  Do not double dose.  If your dog has missed a dose please consult with your veterinarian.

Advantage Multi® Topical Solution is generally well tolerated in dogs when given at the usual dose.  Stiff hair, a damp appearance of the hair, or a powdery residue may be observed at the application site. There are very few side effects when the drug is given at the usual dose.  The following side effects have been reported with the use of Advantage Multi® Topical Solution: depression/lethargy, pruritus, vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, application site reactions (alopecia, pruritus, erythema, and lesions, including blisters), hyperactivity, ataxia, trembling, seizures, panting, hypersalivation, anaphylaxis/anaphylactic reactions (hives, facial swelling, edema of the head), and corneal ulceration. 

Ensure that the dog does not ingest the product. Ingestion of this product may cause serious adverse reactions including depression, salivation, dilated pupils, incoordination, panting, and generalized muscle tremors.

Other side effects may occur. If you notice anything unusual, contact your veterinarian.

There are no documented drug interactions with this medication. Contact your veterinarian if your pet experiences any unusual reactions when different medications are given together.

Make sure to tell your veterinarian what other medication you are giving to your pet. Quite often your veterinarian may prescribe two different medications, even if a drug interaction may occur. In this case, your veterinarian may vary the dose and/or monitor your pet more closely.

For topical use only. Avoid oral ingestion. Do not let this product get in your dog's mouth or eyes. Do not allow the dog to lick any of the application site for 30 minutes.  In households with multiple pets, keep each treated dog separated from other treated dogs and other pets for 3 minutes after application to prevent licking. Contact with eyes can lead to eye irritation and corneal ulceration. If contact with eyes occurs, hold the dog's eyelids open, flush thoroughly with water, and contact your veterinarian.  Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing.

Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Be sure to inform VetSource and your veterinarian if your pet has any known drug sensitivities or allergies. If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, call your veterinarian immediately or go to a veterinary emergency clinic. Symptoms may include but are not limited to: swollen lips, tongue, face, airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; vomiting; widespread hives and itching.

Store long term between 39°F to 77°F, excursions permitted up to 104°F during shipping. Protect from freezing. Keep this medicine out of reach of children. Store in a childproof container. Store this medicine in a cool, dry place at room temperature. Store away from heat and direct sunlight. Do not store this medicine in the bathroom, near the kitchen sink or in damp places. The medicine may break down if exposed to heat or moisture.
