Marquis® Oral Paste for horses is indicated for the treatment of equine protozoal myeloencephalitis (EPM) caused by Sarcocystis neurona. EPM is one of the most common equine central nervous system disorders in horses. The sooner EPM is diagnosed and appropriately treated, the better the chance of recovery.

Usage
Marquis® Oral Paste should be given to your horse as directed by your veterinarian.
To administer Marquis®, set the dosage ring to the appropriate weight and be sure the horse's mouth contains no feed. Deposit paste on the back of the horse's tongue. To aid swallowing of paste, gently raise horse's head for a few seconds after dosing.
Missed Doses
Give the dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose, and continue with the regular schedule. Do not give 2 doses at once.
Side Effects
Side effects may include blisters on nose and mouth or a rash/hives. Other side effects may occur. If you notice anything unusual, contact your veterinarian.
Drug & Food Interactions
There are no drug interactions with this medication. Make sure to tell your veterinarian what other medication or supplements you are giving to your horse. Ponazuril has currently no reported drug interactions at this time. Quite often your veterinarian may prescribe two different medications, even if a drug interaction may occur. In this case, your veterinarian may vary the dose and/or monitor your horse more closely.
Cautions
Keep out of reach of children.  For animal use only, not for use in humans. For oral use only. The safe use of Marquis® Oral Paste in horses used for breeding purposes; during pregnancy or in lactating mares has not been evaluated. The safety of Marquis® Oral Paste with concomitant therapies in horses has not been evaluated.
Prior to treatment, EPM should be distinguished from other diseases that may cause ataxia in horses. Injuries or lameness may also complicate the evaluation of an animal with EPM. In most instances, ataxia due to EPM in horses is asymmetrical. Neurologic deficits, primarily ataxia, have been reported to acutely worsen during the early treatment period. In some horses, the worsening of the neurologic deficits was transient
Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Be sure to inform VetSource and your veterinarian if your horse has any known drug sensitivities or allergies. If your horse displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, call your veterinarian immediately or go to a veterinary emergency clinic. Symptoms may include but are not limited to: swollen lips, tongue, face, airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; widespread hives and itching.

Storage
Store at 68°F to 77°F in controlled room temperature, excursions permitted between 59° to 86°F. Keep this medicine out of reach of children. Store in a childproof container. Store this medicine in a cool, dry place at room temperature. Store away from heat and direct sunlight. Do not store this medicine in the bathroom, near the kitchen sink or in damp places. The medicine may break down if exposed to heat or moisture.
