Usage
Ursodiol should be given orally as directed by your veterinarian.
Missed Doses
Give the dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular schedule. Do not give two doses at once.
Side Effects
This medication is generally well tolerated. Side effects are rare, but may include nausea and diarrhea.
Other side effects may occur. If you notice anything unusual, contact your veterinarian.
Drug & Food Interactions
The following drugs are the most common relevant potential interactions with metronidazole, but is not a comprehensive list: aluminum-containing antacids, cholestyramine, estrogens, fenofibrate, gemfibrozil, and taurine.
Ensure your veterinarian is aware of all medications and supplements you are giving to your pet prior to use of this medication. Notify your veterinarian if your pet experiences any unusual reactions when different medications are given together. Quite often your veterinarian may prescribe two different medications, and a drug interaction may be anticipated; in this case, your veterinarian may vary the dose and/or monitor your pet more closely.
Cautions
This medication does not have an FDA-approved indication for use in animals, but it is a common and acceptable practice for veterinarians to prescribe this human medication for use in animals.
Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Be sure to inform Vetsource and your veterinarian if your pet has any known drug sensitivities or allergies. If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, call your veterinarian immediately or seek emergency veterinary attention. Allergic symptoms may include but are not limited to: swollen lips, tongue, face, or airways; difficulty breathing, agitation, profuse salivation, vomiting, and widespread hives/itching.
